What Flowers to Send for a New Baby (and Where to Send Them)

A new baby is one of the best reasons to send flowers — and one of the easiest to get slightly wrong. The fix is mostly logistics.

Hospital or home?

Home wins, almost always. Maternity stays now run one to two days, so a hospital delivery has a narrow window — and some NICUs and maternity wards restrict flowers entirely. Unless you know the family will be there another day and the ward allows it, send to the house, timed for the first week home. That's also when the newness fades into exhaustion and a doorbell surprise means the most.

If you do send to the hospital: use a local florist who delivers to that hospital daily, include the room number, and have it arrive mid-morning. Our stores deliver to hospitals across Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Charlotte counties and will call the ward to confirm before dispatch.

What to send

• A vase arrangement, not a hand-tied bouquet. New parents do not have a free hand to find a vase. Ready-to-set-down is the rule.
• Soft and low-fragrance. Pastels, whites, garden roses, ranunculus, spray roses. Skip heavy lilies — strong fragrance in a small room with a newborn is a miss.
• Add-ons land here. A plush animal or balloon reads perfectly on this occasion.

What to write

Short and warm: "Welcome to the world, Lucia. So happy for you three." Include the baby's name if you know it — that's the detail parents remember.
