Christmas Cactus Plant Care
Place your Christmas Cactus in bright, indirect light.
- Light
- Bright, indirect light—it thrives near a window with filtered light and does well in average home humidity. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the flat, segmented stems.
- Water
- Water every 2–3 weeks during the growing season, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom and empty the saucer immediately—Christmas Cacti do not tolerate sitting in water. Unlike desert cacti, they prefer slightly more moisture but root rot from overwatering is still the biggest risk.
- Humidity
- Does well in average home humidity.
- Temperature
- Keep in a stable environment away from cold drafts, heat vents, and fireplaces as sudden temperature changes can cause buds to drop before they bloom.
- Feeding
- Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month from spring through early fall. Stop fertilizing once buds begin to form.
